**(Club Car) My Charger Flashes Red, Yellow, and Green Without Charging**

_What it looks like:_ The charger cycles through a sequence of Red (fan on), Yellow (fan on), and Green (fan off) approximately every 30 seconds when connected to a Club Car.

_What it means:_ The charger is attempting to communicate with the Club Car's On-Board Computer (OBC), and the OBC is not responding correctly. This is almost always an OBC failure, not a charger defect.

**Which Club Cars Have an OBC?**

*   **2014 and older:** These Club Cars have an OBC. The transition away from OBCs began around 2014 and was completed by 2015, so some late-2014 and early-2015 models may still have one.
*   **2016 and newer:** No OBC. If you are seeing the Red-Yellow-Green cycle on a 2016 or newer Club Car, contact FORM Charge — this may indicate a different issue.

_Note:_ The current FORM Charge charger (with mode-selection button) has improved programming that works with most functioning OBCs. Many Club Car owners with the current charger are able to charge successfully without performing a bypass. If you have the current charger and are still seeing this error, the OBC has likely failed and a bypass is recommended.

If your Club Car has an OBC and the OBC has failed, you have two options to restore charging:

**Option 1: OBC Replacement**

Take your golf cart to a service technician to replace the factory OBC. The typical cost is **$400–$700**. This will allow the original factory charger to function again as well.

**Option 2: OBC Bypass**

An OBC bypass is a simple procedure that routes a single wire from the cart's receptacle directly to the main negative battery terminal, bypassing the failed OBC entirely. Once bypassed, your FORM Charge charger will charge the cart directly without depending on the OBC.

There are two bypass procedures. Which one applies depends on the wiring on the back of your charging receptacle. Model year is a good rough guide, but always confirm by examining the back of the receptacle and matching it to the images below.

**Early Bypass (roughly 1995–2003 Club Car)**

These carts typically have a receptacle with two large pins and two small pins. The bypass procedure is as follows:

1.  Disconnect the charger and turn the key to the OFF position.
2.  Locate the charging receptacle on the cart and access the wiring on the back side.
3.  Identify the two small pins on the receptacle — one carries the OBC interlock signal.
4.  Run a jumper wire from the negative large pin on the back of the receptacle directly to the main negative terminal of the battery pack.
5.  This bypasses the OBC circuit and allows the charger to deliver power directly to the batteries.

**Late Bypass (roughly 2004–2014 Club Car)**

These carts typically have an updated receptacle wiring layout. The bypass procedure is as follows:

1.  Disconnect the charger and turn the key to the OFF position.
2.  Locate the charging receptacle on the cart and access the wiring on the back side.
3.  Identify the wires connected to the receptacle — the layout differs from the earlier version.
4.  Run a jumper wire from the appropriate negative terminal on the back of the receptacle directly to the main negative terminal of the battery pack.
5.  This bypasses the OBC circuit and allows the charger to deliver power directly to the batteries.
